WORCESTER  — A Worcester edition of Monopoly is going to be available in stores and online on Nov. 16.

Top Trumps USA Inc., a company that manufactures card and board games, is creating the game under a license from Hasbro, the official owner of the Monopoly brand.

“We want to ensure that the Monopoly: Worcester edition game is an accurate portrayal of what locals love about the area,” said Top Trumps USA Inc. Partnerships Manager Afolabi Omotola.

From June 10 – July 25, Top Trumps USA Inc. allowed area residents to send emailed suggestions of which 34 Worcester hot spots they’d like to have included on the localized game board.

According to a statement from the company, Monopoly is one of the world’s most popular family board games in the world. Since it was created about 85 years ago, Monopoly has been played by 1 billion people in 114 countries. It’s also available in over 47 languages.

“Forget the famous Boardwalk, Park Place and B.& O. Railroad,” wrote Alyssa Whitley, a public relations coordinator at Dixon Schwabl + Company, who issued a press release for Top Trumps USA Inc.  “The MONOPOLY: Worcester edition could feature Green Hill Park, Kelley Square, Turtle Boy Statue and other defining characteristics unique to the vibrant city. The game will also include customized ‘Community Chest’ and ‘Chance’ playing cards, making the entire game truly a Worcester experience.”

Top Trumps USA Inc. will be revealing the official Worcester Monopoly game board in a launch event on Nov. 16, the day the game goes on sale.

“We are so excited and can’t wait to share it with the Worcester community,” said Omotola.
