MARTHA’S VINEYARD – The Shepherd Hill Regional High School boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams were well represented at the 14th Annual Martha’s Vineyard Invitational.

The annual meet held on Saturday, Sept. 18 on the island featured five races, including a co-ed freshman race, a 5k girls and boys junior varsity race, and a 5k girls and boys varsity race. The course ran through the Manuel F. Correllus State Forest, and with the Rams running amongst 14 teams and more than 500 runners from across the state.

The girls’ team came in second overall with junior captain Emery Mullin placing fifth with a time of 20:02. Mullins’ fellow captains also followed up with strong finishes of their own. Junior Anna Thomas placed tenth overall with a time of 20:49 and close behind at twelfth place was junior Grace Bateman at 20:51. Junior Rachael Zannotti also placed 21st (21:46) and junior Karlee White was 24th (22:04) for the Rams.

Not to be outdone, the boys team came in fifth overall out of ten teams. The varsity scorers ran strong in the 5k race with senior captain Bronson Dubey coming in seventh with a personal best time of 17:03. Junior captain Andrew Trudel also earned a personal best time of 17:19 in an eleventh-place finish. Senior Conor Fitzgerald was the third Ram captain to finish with a personal best time (17:38) with his 17th place finish. Both Dubey and Trudel medaled for finishing in the top 15. Other notable finishes were sophomore Ethan Casey with a personal best time of 20:02 good for 51st place and senior Tristen Huynh placing 59th with a time of 21:05.

In the girls’ junior varsity races, freshman Francesca Monighetti was the Rams’ top finisher at 19th overall with a time of 16:30 in the 1.85 miles freshmen race. In the JV 5K, junior Abigail Lombardi was 24th with a time of 25:04 and senior Emma Chabot was 70th running her fastest 5k time by more than five minutes with a time of 30:38.

In the freshman 1.85-mile race for the boys, Dominik Dubey medaled with a 15th place finish.  Kyle Sgariglia and Mikey Doktor finished 21st and 22nd respectively and Timothy Krysinski finished 41st and Jaden Deauseault placed 58th.  In the boys JV race, sophomore David Cranney beat his personal best by a minute with a time of 27:48 and a 77th place finish.
