Town Square is a different kind of news site. Our mission is to tell the stories of what’s good in a community, to focus locally, and to bring people together around a common set of experiences and positive stories.
In an America that is more divided than ever, the media is one more thing that divides our country. Are you a Fox viewer or a MSNBC viewer? What set of “facts do you believe? Town Square is different – we deliver stories that celebrate the best of a community.
What We Do
Town Square is a subscription-based local website that focuses exclusively on delivering content about what’s good in a community. We report daily on positive local stories – individuals, non-profits, businesses that are making a contribution to their community, local sports stories, grassroots and social-impact work, and interesting people, local groups and organizations. We believe there is an opening for a new, locally-focused online outlet that delivers positive content about your community – and brings people together around a common set of experiences.
Town Square fills a void left by the retrenchment of the traditional local news media. Two trends in particular – cost cutting, which has reduced or eliminated local news coverage, and traditional news outlets becoming more partisan, and therefore more siloed – have created an opening for a content outlet like Town Square. We are not looking to replace traditional news sites, but rather serve as a community asset with a mission to bring a local perspective and unique daily content to our readers.
The division we see in our society right now occurs in part because of the different silos we live in today. We believe that people are looking for something different – and that the pandemic has accelerated that trend. The local institutions that used to bring us together or at least provide a common frame of reference are no longer around. Restoring that is what Town Square is all about – providing a foundation for more productive discussions and helping to develop a common bond in a community.
Town Square hires local reporters and provides local voices a platform to tell the stories of the good things happening in a community. Our team provides daily content that seeks to shine a light on the positive stories that often go unnoticed in today’s media.
