BOLTON — Over 50 car trunks decorated with themes ranging from the cookie monster to Monsters, Inc., packed the Bolton Fairgrounds last Saturday.

It was all part of MAEVE North Central MA’s “trunk or treat” event, which took place from Oct. 23 from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. MAEVE North Central MA partnered with the newly formed Leominster MAEVE chapter for the occasion.

MEAVE North Central MA, is a chapter of MEAVE, a nationwide non-profit organization of mothers who support one another and their communities. MEAVE stands for “Motherhood. Alliance. Equity. Village.” MAEVE is a fairly new organization. Its national chapter began last year and the North Central MA chapter began about a month ago.

MAEVE members and their friends were invited to the “trunk or treat” event, the main attraction of which were the decorated trunks. Participants opened their trunks, decorated them and then left out Halloween candy and toys for the kids, who went trick or treating in a parade around the open trunks. There were also games in the field as well as an obstacle course.

“We had games, music, crafts, we had a contest you could vote for your favorite trunk after you went through and saw them all,” said Kristina Biro, MAEVE North Central MA’s VP of Programming.

The Lancaster Fire Department also made an appearance, bringing with them a fire truck and ambulance to entertain the kids.

“The kids loved it and they were great with the kids,” Biro said of the fire department. Later adding, “One of the biggest hits was the Halloween music and the kids just loved dancing to the Halloween music, which was really fun to watch.”

Biro said the leftover candy is going to be donated to Leominster Veterans’ Services.
