Central Mass Town Square celebrates all the talented high school senior athletes and team captains we covered throughout the fall 2021 season. Congratulations on a triumphant return to the track, field, court, or pitch. It has been a great sports season, so far, and good luck to those competing in the various tournaments throughout the State. For the number of senior athletes and team captains we covered, there are even more who we have not had the chance to write about. If you know of any student-athlete deserving of recognition, please send me an email at ksaleeba@centralmasstownsquare.com.
The featured photo above highlights three outstanding senior captains from the Oxford High School boys’ soccer team. They are Myles Craft, Sam Zostant, and Errick Rebello. They helped lead the Pirates to a first-place finish in the South Worcester County League Division C with a record of 8-5-3. Craft was also second on the team in scoring with eight goals, six assists, and 14 points. The Pirates are coached by Paul Frykberg, who is in his seventh season.
A Taste of Victory
The next feature photo is of the Blackstone-Millville field hockey captains. With the leadership of junior Ella Leclaire, and seniors Haley Vadenais and Sarah Hamilton, the team won two games this season and finished with seven goals as a team. They are improving and look to take the next step forward next season to hopefully move up in the Dual Valley standings.
Heading into the Division 7 MIAA Tournament as a 14th Seed
After dropping three out of their first four games of the season, the Leicester High School football team, behind the leadership of their seniors Jimmy Mercier, Connor Linehan, Nik Dagostino, Seth Larson, Mike Mero, and A.J. Direnzo, the Wolverines turned their season around by winning three out of their next four games to end the regular season (4-4), while also snagging the 14th seed in the upcoming MIAA Division 7 tournament. They face their biggest challenge of the season on Saturday, Nov. 6 as they face Hamilton-Wenham at 2 p.m.
Sutton Volleyball Triple Their Wins!
The Sutton Volleyball team experienced an increase in success this season. After a 1-6 record last season, the Suzies finished the season with a 3-11 record, which included five close losses that went a full five games. They are led by senior captains Abby Chase and Carly Beaulieu, who, with the help of first year coach Erin Messier, Sutton started to establish a positive culture they hope will help the underclassmen to continue a new era of winning for Sutton volleyball.
Best Golf Team in the South Worcester County League
Grafton seniors Nick Viens and Ryan Schiappa helped lead the golf team to a 9-1 record in the South Worcester County League B conference as well as a victory at the SWCL Tournament.
Young Leaders and a Bright Future for South Soccer
South High junior Emma Robeau and sophomores Emma Moriarty and Solimar Rivera are one of the youngest group of captains in Central Mass. They helped lead the first ever winning season in girls’ soccer history at the school with a first place finish in the Inter-High League with a 5-1 record (9-2-5 overall) and their first postseason berth.
Stay tuned for more photographs of our seniors and captains to follow in coming editions.
All the best!
