HUBBARDSTON, Mass. — The son of a popular local singer-songwriter has taken his solo act on the road in Central Massachusetts.

Jared Moore, 23, of Hubbardston is a staple at the 110 Grill in Leominster. He has also played at the Red Apple Farm in Phillipston and was invited to perform at a festival in Providence, Rhode Island.

“Performing is something so therapeutic, and it makes me feel so comfortable and confident to be myself,” he said.

Moore plays acoustic covers of a wide range of music, from hard rock bands like The Deftones to pop sensations like Tears For Fears. Moore is also influenced by musicians from the 90s and 2000s alternative scene including Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, John Mayer and Jack Johnson.

Most local musicians make more money performing cover songs, but Moore plans on adding some originals into the mix eventually.

“I don’t play any originals right now, still in the works,” said Moore. “There’s a right time for everything. If all my friends are there or it’s more lowkey, I might toss in a couple originals here and there.”

Moore is the son of Heidi-Jo Hanson, 48, a singer and guitarist who was once in the popular female folk/rock duo, Moonstruck. She released a solo album in 2003 called “I’m Still Me,” which made its way to radio and local television.

According to Hanson, her son has been an excellent musician from a very young age.

“I got him a piano on Christmas morning, I think he was 11 a little keyboard and by the time the day was over, he was playing Beethoven, Bach, The Entertainer, both hands,” she said. “I thought it was the piano playing, you know, you push that button and it just plays a song. No, it was Jared in there playing.”

Moore has been playing local gigs since 2018. Last March, he launched a YouTube page which has gotten some traction. His cover of “Two-Way Mirror” by Loathe had 5.4 thousand views. He films his YouTube videos out of his friend Nate Robichaud’s studio in Rindge, New Hampshire.

“I made him record everything in one take, which I think he hated me for, but I really liked that look which was one camera angle and you could tell nothing was mimicked,” said Robichaud.

Moore said he plans on performing in Central Massachusetts until he raises enough money to buy an RV and get on the road.

“I don’t have an RV yet, but I have been thinking about it since high school,” said Moore. Later adding, “I am just used to packing up and bringing everything I got with me and I think I plan on continuing that for the rest of my life.”
