WORCESTER, Mass. — Rick Porter, the president of Cinch I.T., a local IT tech support company, has organized a four-day, three-night, 100-mile “ruck march” challenge to raise money for Why Me & Sherry’s House, a nonprofit that helps children with cancer.
Fifteen athletes, all business owners and professionals from Massachusetts, are taking part in the 2021 100-Mile Ruck March Challenge. They will travel 25 miles by foot each day, using local breweries as night-time checkpoints and locations for fundraising parties. Participants have all the supplies they need for their four-day trek in their rucksack, including tents. The 100-Mile Ruck March Challenge is taking place from July 22 to July 25.
“I chose a ruck march as the fundraiser because I am ex-army special operations soldier, so I know how challenging and rewarding a ruck march can be,” explained Porter. “Walking with a weighted rucksack implies action, energy and purpose. Rucking requires strength, endurance and character — and builds it, too.”
The public is welcome to attend the fundraising parties at each brewery location.
“I would love for the community to come out and have a beer with us,” said Porter.
Proceeds go to Why Me and Sherry’s House as they help families cope with a pediatric cancer diagnosis. Their services range from support groups, to logistical and financial support, as well as staff visits – whether at home, in a hospital or at a clinic. All services are free of charge.
